Use 1Password instead of Microsoft Authenticator

Our Microsoft account requires two factor authentication and most everyone uses Microsoft Authenticator.  Did you know that you can setup 1Password to also be your two factor authenticator?  Now you wouldn't need to use your phone!

PREREQUISITE:

1.  1Password is already installed and setup on your laptop.

2.  1Password is already installed and setup on your phone.

Create an entry in your Employee Vault

1.  Create a new entry and enter your NW email address and password.

**This entry may have already been created during the import phase of setup.

2.  Add the website https://login.microsoftonline.com/

3.  Save into your Employee vault

Adding a second two factor authentication to Microsoft

1.  **ON YOUR LAPTOP: ** Navigate https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info  and sign in.

2.  Press “ + Add sign-in method”

3.  Choose “Microsoft Authenticator” then “I want to use a different authenticator app”

4. Choose Next to display a QR code.

5.  ON YOUR PHONE:  Open your NW email entry in your 1Password Employee vault and choose Edit

6. Click “ + add more ” and choose “One-Time Password”

7. Click little QR code icon in 1Password to bring up your camera and scan the QR code on your laptop.

8. Choose Save

9. ON YOUR LAPTOP: Click Next on the screen with the QR code

10. Enter the six digit code from that is now displayed on your phone's 1Password entry.

11.  Click Next to confirm the setup is correct.

Using 1Password instead of Microsoft Authenticator on your laptop

REQUIRED:  1Password browser extension must be installed and you must be signed into the 1Password desktop app or browser extension

1.  Navigate to a NW resource like FRODO

2.  When prompted to login, use the 1Password extension to choose your NW Email entry we setup earlier.

3.  1Password browser extension will enter your email and then your password for you.

4.  The Microsoft Authenticator screen will pop up and your phone will pop a notification.  IGNORE IT!

5.  Click “I can't use my Authenticator right now”

6.  Choose “Use a Verification Code” and 1Password will enter your six digit code for you!
